Three-dimensional fracture network displayed in a VTK interface

From model output to geological structure

Discrete fracture networks represent complex geological structure in three dimensions. I worked on assessing and post-processing generated network units, with attention to the continuity of fractures across neighboring units.

My contribution

  • Investigated DFN quality assessment and the relationship between generated outputs and geological constraints.
  • Developed post-processing using dip, azimuth, and spatial-continuity constraints to merge rectangular slices into multi-scale fracture structures.
  • Used VTK to render 3D fracture networks and map fracture sizes to color gradients for visual inspection.

Making spatial relationships visible

Visualization helps connect algorithmic outputs with interpretable structure. My work focused on making differences in scale and connectivity easier to inspect, and on addressing discontinuities at unit boundaries.
